On the other hand, Olympus, known as the worldwide leader in developing endoscopes, has accumulated their proprietary technology and expertise. Networks with healthcare professionals enhance the analysis for the needs and significant insights of healthcare trends.

Sony Olympus Medical Solutions has brought together the core technologies and expertise of Sony (image sensors, image and signal processing, optical transmission, 4K imaging) and Olympus (medical products R&D, deep understanding of the needs of the medical community) and combined them to optimize its constituent elements and the entire video processing technology for medical devices in the development of products. Specifically, we led R&D for the centerpiece products of this system, including the "eye" of the endoscope - the 4K camera head - and the 4K camera control unit that manages the captured images.

Sony Imaging Products & Solutions Inc. ("Sony"), Olympus Corporation, and Sony Olympus Medical Solutions Inc. jointly developed the ORBEYE Surgical Microscope, incorporating 4K 3D video technology as well as high-definition and three-dimensional digital images to support precision surgery. Olympus Corporation announced the launch of this product.
Sony Olympus Medical Solutions has brought together the core technologies of Sony and Olympus and led fundamental R&D for the entire system including the lens, light source, and image sensor for image input, as well as the monitor and recorder for image output. Combining the 4K 3D video and miniaturization technologies of Sony and expertise of the surgical microscope business and medical device development in addition to the needs/techniques of the medical community of Olympus, Sony Olympus Medical Solutions has optimized its constituent elements and the video processing technology in 4K 3D surgical microscope systems.
